Vietnamese

VietnamVietnam, a densely-populated, developing country struggling over the last 30 years to recover from the ravages of war, stands among the few remaining Communist nations of the 21st Century.  A few years ago Vietnam was ranked second highest in the area of Christian persecution. The Veitnamese government, according to Johnstone and Mandryk of Operation World, has created a constitution whose fraudulent guarantees of religious freedom bear no resemblance to the reality forced upon the people.  But, despite this reality, there is great cause for rejoicing as the gospel spreads rapidly bringing to mind Tertullian’s famous observation, "The blood of martyrs is the seed of the Church."  Although our SDA house-church members and leaders, along with other non-registered minority groups, endure terrifying persecution, the everlasting gospel continues to spread with miraculous speed.

Twelve years ago, when Vietnamese Pastor Isah Young began broadcasting the Peace and Happiness radio program into Vietnam, there were no SDA house-churches and only a handful of registered SDA churches. Today membership grows rapidly with over 350,000 Sabbath keeping listeners and a strong team of national pastors working under Pastor Young’s leadership in the underground movement. God is blessing in a mighty way. ASAP donors support over 300 lay pastors and youth evangelists who serve throughout Vietnam. This year, the national pastors report that there is a tremendous increase in requests for Bibles and evangelistic materials. The demand is so great that the pastors can barely keep up with the requests.
