Meet Ka Lu Htoo

Ka Lu Htoo is a medical missionary worker in the Sein Pan Village, Tongue District of Myanmar. He works under Dr. Htwe Lay. He travels 17 miles everyday to work with a small group of Buddhists. He has been using medical work to reach out to the people for Christ and as a doorway to Bible studies. His work has much opposition from stubborn and skeptical people. He has had many blessings along the way in his work though. He told Martin Kim about the 11 baptisms that they had in February of 2011 and of the people that have come to take Bible studies because of the healing in their bodies due to his work there.  He was also very happy for La Wee who was a backslidden member who was struggling with drunkenness and has returned to the truth and is working to give up alcohol completely. He is also encouraging his sister to become involved in the church and teach the women how to embroider.

Relationships with the local people grow slowly. He worked with a man named Sein Shwe for three years until he and his family were finally baptized into the church. Ka Lu is very careful to not pressure or force anyone. He prefers to work with them little by little till they come to the truth and accept it for themselves. He says that all the conversions to the truth are directly related to prayer. Most people initially saw his work in the village as just another Christian trying to evangelize the Buddhists into Christianity. This is why he works to build up networks between people and to show them that he is there to heal the sick. He has also worked with a local man named Win Myint who also travels around giving massage and healing. He witnessed to him and gave him techniques and eventually Bible studies. Even though Win Myint was a very strong Buddhist, he converted to the Seventh-day Adventist truth and was baptized with his wife.

Not all the stories are so happy. Ka Lu told Martin Kim of a woman named Aye Than whose husband shot her in the face with a slingshot. Her eye was damaged and she was not able to get relief no matter what doctor she had seen. Ka Lu met with her and did natural remedies for her and prayed. Her eye improved and she came to the evangelistic meetings. When her husband found out, he threatened Ka Lu’s life and took his wife away. Ka Lu says that Aye Than was able to separate from her abusive husband, and he hopes to be able to continue Bible studies with her.

Ka Lu asks that we lift up in prayer him and his family and his ministry of healing there in Sein Pan Village. We should also lift up the new members as they constantly face persecution.
