Mirna Ortiz

BASIC JOB DESCRIPTION
Executive Assistant to the CEO

SCHOOLING
I completed six years of medical school at the Peruvian Union University (UpeU) in my home country, Peru. I am still waiting for God’s leading to finish my last year. Additionally, I completed a Healthcare Provider Internship for two years at Uchee Pines Institute. My time there transformed my life and my view of medicine and the human body.

HOW YOU WERE ORIGINALLY CONNECTED TO ASAP
Through mutual friends. Julia, our CEO, was actually a guest at our friends’ wedding weekend. On Sabbath, she shared the children’s story and showed pictures of boys and girls in Cambodia. I was so touched by it that I prayed in my heart one day I will also be able to be part of a ministry like ASAP. God answered my prayer and, without planning it, through those same friends I was recommended to work here and the Lord opened the way!

WHEN YOU STARTED WORKING WITH ASAP
October 18, 2022

FAVORITE ASAP PROJECT
Medical missionary work and sponsoring students. My husband and I actually sponsor one of these precious children!

WHAT YOU LIKE TO DO OUTSIDE OF WORK
Praying about everything, studying the Bible ( I get excited each time I find gems), reading and writing poetry, trying to master the classical guitar, currently learning French and Quechua (Peru’s main dialect), going on walks in nature with my husband and Lucas (my dog), praying out loud and being inspired with allegories  and object lessons while exploring plants and trees in nature, always asking questions, altering clothes with my sewing machine, admiring/observing (and sometimes collecting) objects of the past, swimming, visiting family and friends.

YOUR FAVORITE BIBLE TEXT
I call it the “Wisdom in Nature" poem. “Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding? Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the fowls of the air. Destruction and death say, We have heard the fame thereof with our ears. God understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth the place thereof. For he looketh to the ends of the earth, and seeth under the whole heaven; To make the weight for the winds; and he weigheth the waters by measure. When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder: Then did he see it, and declare it; he prepared it, yea, and searched it out. And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding” (Job 28:20-28).
