2024 Cambodia Mission Trip

Ministry Activities

Join us on a journey to northern Cambodia to construct high school classrooms and serve at-risk children and their families at the Takong ASAP mission school. Mission trip team members will work alongside local ASAP missionaries, receive training in cross-cultural ministry, and visit historical and cultural sites, including Angkor Wat and Prison 21 (Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum).

  • We will construct four high school classrooms and additional bathroom facilities. Activities will include carrying block and brick, mixing mortar, laying block nd brick, finishing walls, etc., to build non-weight bearing partitions between the classrooms. We have availability for approximately 12 construction workers.
  • Vacation Bible School, nightly evangelistic meetings, health ministry, home visitation, and perhaps music training. We have availability for approximately 12 ministry workers.

Mission Trip Itinerary

Saturday night or Sunday, May 25 or 26: Fly to Phnom Penh International Airpot (PNH), Cambodia. You must arrive no later than Tuesday, May 28, at 5:00 p.m. (Note: Flights crossing the International Date Line lose a day.)

Monday, May 27: Travel day (you will be en route on this day).

Tuesday, May 28: Arrival in Phnom Penh (PNH). We will pick you up at the airport. Orientation and supper together. Introduction to Cambodian history and culture. Check into nearby hotel. Visit local historical sites in Phnom Penh, as time allows.

Wednesday, May 29: Early morning mission training. Visit to Prison 21 (Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum). Travel to Siem Reap and check into hotel. Explore the famous Siem Reap night market.

Thursday, May 30: For those who are early risers (or not used to the local time yet), meet at 4:00 a.m. for the sunrise Angkor Wat tour. We will depart Angkor Wat at 8:00 a.m. Breakfast back at the hotel at 8:30 a.m. Depart to school site (Takong). Ministry team meeting with local leaders upon arrival. Project orientation.

Friday, May 31: Construction, VBS, visitation, health/ministry, and nightly evangelism programs.

Saturday, June 1: Sabbath school and church at Takong mission school.

Sunday, June 2—Friday, June 7: Construction, VBS, visitation, health/ministry, and nightly evangelism programs.

Saturday, June 8: Final Sabbath at Takong. After sundown, travel to Battambang and check into hotel. Overnight in Battambang.

Sunday, June 9: In the morning, visit Center of Influence and have breakfast. Travel from Battambang to Phnom Penh, arriving by 3:00 p.m. Return flight home, departing from Phnom Penh, or check into hotel (for those not departing on June 9) and spend final night in Phnom Penh.* (Note: Flights crossing the International Date Line gain a day.)

*Please schedule your flight home after 5:00 p.m. on June 9. If you cannot book your flight for Sunday evening, a hotel will be provided Sunday night. However, no lunch, supper, or hotel room will be provided on Monday, June 10.

Cost Breakdown

The $1,500 USD Mission Trip Fee ($1,000 USD for children 13 years of age and under) includes the following for May 26–June 9:

  • All lodging
  • All transportation within Cambodia
  • Three vegetarian meals per day
  • Bottled water
  • Interpreter fees
  • Fees for any tourist sites visited: Prison 21, Angkor Wat
  • Travel insurance (for attendees from the U.S. only). Attendees from outside the U.S., please contact us.
  • Supplies and other expenses directly related to the mission trip (e.g., teaching supplies, materials for Vacation Bible School, and other materials, etc.)
  • Ministry project support
  • Nonrefundable $250 deposit to secure spot. Includes cost of background check. (The remaining $1,250 of the mission trip fee will be due in monthly installments divided evenly between now and the final payment deadline, February 26, 2024.)

Additional Expenses (Responsibility of the Mission Trip Participant)

  • Each participant is responsible for purchasing their own international roundtrip flight to Phnom Penh (prices range widely from $800—$1,800 per roundtrip flight). Purchasing your ticket early will give you the best price.
  • Additional spending money for personal use, including meals of your own choosing, mementos, gifts, and other unexpected and incidental expenses.

Ready to Go? Here's What to Do Next!

  1. Pray for heart preparation and God’s guidance every step of the way (Prov. 3:5–6).
  2. Submit the Mission Trip Application Form online. NOTE: The application period for this trip closed on March 15, 2024.
  3. Verify that your passport is current and send a copy to ASAP. Your passport must have an expiration date no earlier than six months after your arrival date in Cambodia (in this case, November 28, 2024). A digital scan of your passport may be submitted with the application form (preferred) or by email to missions@asapministries.org.
  4. Book airline tickets. Please do not book airline tickets until you receive confirmation that your application has been approved.

    You may book your own tickets, but please consider purchasing them through Butler Travel. Their agents will assist in coordinating flights so that, whenever possible, trip participants can travel together on the same airline.     Note: If you decide to purchase your plane tickets outside of Butler Travel, please arrive at the Phnom Penh airport by 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. Do not schedule your return flight before 6:00 p.m. on June 9, 2024.
     

  5. Need a visa? As of August 2023, U.S. citizens will need to apply for an e-visa to enter Cambodia. The e-visa takes several business days to process, so we strongly recommend obtaining it at least two full weeks before the trip. 
  6. Visit the CDC website or consult with your healthcare provider regarding recommended immunizations.
  7. Pay your mission trip fee (you will be notified of the deadline upon approval of your application). You may pay by check or by credit card, either online or by calling the ASAP office at 269-471-3026.

Dress Code

We want to dress in such a way that the people of Cambodia can see Jesus through us and not be distracted in any way by what we wear.

  • Men should wear long pants and short- or long-sleeve plain shirts with collars. They may also opt to wear loose fitting scrubs.
  • Women should wear loose skirts or dresses at least two inches below the knee and short- or long-sleeve modest, loose-fitting shirts. They may also wear capris, dress pants, or loose fitting scrubs.
  • For construction volunteers: bring durable fabric clothes, work gloves, and a large hat.

What are the entry requirements for Cambodia?

Currently, travelers entering Cambodia are not required to show Proof of Vaccination or Covid-19 test results. All travelers can freely travel to Cambodia without any Covid restrictions.
