A call to unite in intercession for the salvation of the Buddhist world

Southeast Asia is home to one third of the world's 535 million Buddhists. In September 2025, millions of Mahayana Buddhists in Vietnam will celebrate a sacred day in their religious calendar known as Ullambana—sometimes loosely translated as "deliverance from suffering." At the same time, Theravada Buddhists in countries like Cambodia and Laos will observe similar holidays, with all centered around the belief that spirits are released from the underworld during this season. Many will mark these holidays by honoring their parents and showing gratitude to the monastic community in the hope of earning merit to secure a better afterlife for themselves and their deceased ancestors.

On Friday, September 5, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. ET, join us for an online prayer event focused on the Buddhist world. The program will include a special message from Gregory Whitsett, Adventist Mission planning director, as well as mission reports from Southeast Asia, and a season of prayer for Buddhists everywhere to know Jesus as the only One who can deliver them from sin and suffering.
