From Addiction to Freedom in Christ

by Timothy Cho,* ASAP Field Supervisor

Wai Than* had been a Buddhist all his life and deeply loved alcohol. He was hostile toward Christian worship and mocked the idea of God. ASAP church planter David Pyae* visited his uncle’s house one day. Drunk and angry, Wai Than challenged him, saying, “What kind of god is your God? What can He do? How can He save anyone?”

When David invited him to church, he refused, saying, “If your God is real, He should show me proof.” That night, Wai Than had a dream where he heard a voice say, “My son, why don’t you believe in Me? Go to church.” When he woke up, he was shaken. So, when David invited him again, he decided to go, even though he was still drinking.

As he kept attending, he slowly came to know the living God. He joined Bible classes to prepare for baptism but struggled with his addiction. Even after being baptized, he couldn’t stop drinking right away. For over a month, he battled his habit, but through prayer and God’s grace, he experienced real transformation. He cried out to God for strength and was finally set free.

Thank you for supporting ASAP Ministries' Evangelism Fund, which enables us to send church planters into new, unreached areas.
